CWM Chemical Services has run out of room for hazardous waste at its current landfill, company spokeswoman Lori A. Caso confirmed Tuesday.
A letter from the company to the state Department of Environmental Conservation said the landfill on Balmer Road accepted its last load Thursday.
The current landfill, the only licensed hazardous waste landfill in New York State, has been operating since December 1994 and holds 5 million tons. Case said it’s roughly the same size as CWM’s proposed new landfill, which is to cover 43.5 acres and have a capacity of 4 million cubic yards of waste. Most of the CWM property is in Porter, although some is in the neighboring Town of Lewiston.
