Marblehead must inject an estimated $8 million more into the Transfer Station and Landfill Closure projects, Public Health Director Andrew Petty said in a Finance Committee meeting Thursday evening, March 12.
To raise the $8 million, the Board of Health has sponsored three articles 32, 33 and 34 on the 2015 Town Meeting warrant. Each seek Proposition 2 ½ debt-exclusion overrides in varying estimated amounts from $1 million to $5.75 million.
Local taxpayers have already passed two overrides for the twin projects in 2011 and 2013, raising $16.2 million to clean up poisonous material on the old 17-acre landfill and abutting properties and to construct the transfer station.
