Wisconsin-based Company Develops New Lid to Help Starbucks Reduce Plastic Waste

Starbucks has recently announced that it is further reducing plastic waste through a newly introduced cold drink cup lid that is made with less plastic.

Starbucks has recently announced that it is further reducing plastic waste through a newly introduced cold drink cup lid that is made with less plastic.

Starbucks is working with Wisconsin-based company Plastic Ingenuity, using its lid designs to increase sustainability. Zach Muscato, Corporate Sustainability Officer at Plastic Ingenuity, spoke about how proud he was of the company’s collaboration with Starbucks and the process of creating environmentally-friendly lids.

“Really came to fruition really gained momentum when they (Starbucks) started to put more focus and goals behind eliminating straws,” Muscato said.

“We today, we make [plastic] mostly from oil and gas, but in the future that will be soybeans. It’ll be corn and it’ll be sugar cane. It’ll be any biomass really.
