PSJ Commissioners Approve Waste Pro Contract

After weeks spent discussing their waste management contract, Port St. Joe commissioners accepted new terms from current contractor Waste Pro during a meeting of the Port St. Joe City Commissioners on Tuesday night.

While commissioners questioned whether a five-year contract was typical, city attorney Tom Gibson said that contract lengths were “all over the map” and that the previous contract with Waste Pro, which had a re-negotiation window beginning this month, was for seven years.

Commissioner Rex Buzzett asked his fellow commissioners to consider a contract length of three years.

“The contract is five years because of our experience,” said Richard Payne, a representative from Waste Pro. “Our history should dictate a five-year contract. We will provide the city of Port St. Joe with the best possible service.”
