Episode 39: Upcycling Plastic Waste in Hawaii

Stefanie Valentic, Editorial Director

November 4, 2021

As a live-long resident of Hawaii, Mattie Mae Larson has had an eye on sustainability her entire life.

In January 2018 she founded Upcycle Hawaii, her online shop, to bringing awareness to ocean pollution. She has traversed some of the world’s most polluted beaches, picking up nets and bottles and other plastic items to craft into wallets, pouches and jewelry.

On this week's Stef Talks Trash, Larson discusses how she started her business, how it has evolved and how much waste she has diverted from landfills.
