A grant from the Department of Environmental Quality will allow the Jefferson Township to extend its tire recycling services for longer than the township has previously been able to provide.
The $24,000 grant will go toward the costs of recycling unused tires, which include transportation and operating costs.
“We were only able to provide one-day recycling events up to a few years ago,” Jefferson Township Clerk Debbie Penney said.
The township hopes to stretch the grant’s funds to provide one year of anytime tire acceptance, but is operating on an “until it runs out” basis, Penney said.
