Smelly Haze Covers Downtown Omaha as Firefighters Battle Recycling Fire

Firefighters battled a stubborn, large paper-and-cardboard recycling fire Tuesday morning in east Omaha.

The fire on the south side of International Paper Co., 1111 Fort St., was reported about 5 a.m. and was still smoldering hours later.

Several fire crews responded to the location just north of Carter Lake and they remained on the scene dousing the bundled paper and cardboard that was awaiting recycling processing.
