Winnipeg Plans New Fees for Organic Waste Pickup


Winnipeg homeowners could start paying extra cash to get a green cart at the curb.

Randy Park, the city’s supervisor of waste diversion, said on Thursday that public consultation would begin later this month, or early March, on three options for a long-awaited organics pickup program.

The basic program, he said, would see only vegetable and fruit waste collected, and would carry a price tag of $55-$65 per household.

Collection of all food waste, including dairy and meat products, would cost homeowners between $60-$70, while a more enhanced program that would collect animal, as well as food waste, would mean a fee upwards of $100 per home.
