Balcones Resources has announced a rebrand following its merger with Sims Municipal Recycling under the new entity, "Balcones Recycling."

The combination makes Balcones one of the largest privately held recycling companies in the United States. Both companies operate under Circular Services, a Closed Loop Partners holding company. Closed Loop acquired a stake in Balcones in 2019, and more recently, Sims Muncipal in 2022.

“Sims Municipal Recycling will play a critical role in powering an inclusive circular economy in New York City by reducing waste and supporting a sustainable supply chain for new products,” said Maria Gotsch, president and CEO of the Partnership Fund for New York City, stated following the Sims acquisiton.

The merger broadens Balcone Recycling's footprint in 14 service areas including New York City, Phoenix, Austin and San Antonio. The company will now service more than 13 million customers, with an annual recycling volume of more than 1 million tons.

Tom Outerbridge, who will serve as CEO of the new entity,  commented about synergies created between two companies with varying backstories.

“Our companies come from different roots: one public, one private. One born in Texas, and one in New York and New Jersey” he said. “But we have both always been dedicated pure-play recyclers. Most importantly, we have grown what will now be one team of the most experienced and dedicated professionals in the industry.”

With both Sims and Balcones under one umbrella, the new company will be able to effectively deliver custom recycling programs, with greater access to a pool of experts.

“We are excited to re-introduce ourselves with our new image and expanded team of experts,” said Adam Vehik, CEO, Balcone Resources. “We have a unique opportunity to amplify our impact across the country without changing the way we operate. Our partners can expect the same personalized approach we are known for, except now there’s a larger leadership team to confer and provide custom recycling solutions.”
