Firefighters Working to Fully Extinguish Johnson County, Kan., Landfill Fire

Deffenbaugh Industries crews continue to work on fully extinguishing a fire at the Johnson County Landfill in Shawnee, Kan., that began early Monday morning. 

According to Jody Hanson of the Johnson County Manager’s Office, the fire started at the landfill around 4:30 a.m. on Monday morning. Officials say the fire may have been smoldering a day or two prior to the fire igniting at the landfill on Monday.

Deffenbaugh Industries crews have worked all day putting out the fire. The fire was largely under control by crews at around 7 a.m. on Monday.
