Lower Saucon Township, Pa. officials will be hearing from Bethlehem Landfill Co. about its plans to expand its facility on 275.7 acres of forested land.
The land is currently zoned as Rural Agriculture and would have to be rezoned to Light Industrial. The regulations for a future approval such as this one would switch from a special exception to a conditional use.
LehighValleyLive.com reported that "landfills and waste disposal land uses would no longer go through the township’s site plan approval process and requirements, provided they instead receive land development approval from the township and a permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection."
