Republic Services Inc. has expanded its operations in West Virginia with the purchase of Suburban Sanitation.
Through its subsidiary, Allied Waste Services of West Virginia, Republic gains a fully integrated solid waste and recycling collection and disposal operation in the Fairmont/Morgantown, W. Va., market.
Allied bought Suburban’s transfer station certificate in the deal and constructed a new facility in Morgantown. The new transfer station was needed to handle both companies’ trash volume and should improve collection efficiency, Republic said in a news release.
Allied operates a number of operations in the area, including two hauling facilities, one transfer station and three municipal solid waste landfills. The company said it now can offer more waste handling services than any other single provider in north central West Virginia.
“We are committed to investing to develop facilities and services that will benefit our customers,” said Jeff Harvey, general manager for Allied Waste.
