East Moline, Ill., Finalizes Private Garbage Collection

Aldermen on Monday voted 4-3 for a contract with Republic Services that privatizes city garbage collection.

Opposing the seven-year contract were Alds. Helen Heiland, 1st Ward; Jeff Stulir, 3rd Ward; and Humberto Aguilar, 5th Ward. Republic is expected to begin service in July, said city administrator Cole O'Donnell.

For months, aldermen have debated changing the city service and once rejected the Republic contract.
