Leonard Joins Casella Waste Systems, O'Sullivan Named VP of American Ref-Fuel

Casella Waste Systems Inc., Rutland, Vt., has re-elected John W. Casella as chairman of the board of directors and has named James W. Bohlig president and Richard A. Norris chief financial officer.

American Ref-Fuel Co., Houston, has named John O'Sullivan executive vice president of operations and Curt Hurst engineering vice president of the company's Newark, N.J., engineering office. The company also has named Lynn Johnston vice president of the Southern region and TransRiver Marketing, and Michael de Castro vice president of the Northern region.

Scott Sasser has been appointed Western regional sales manager for Iowa Mold Tooling Co. Inc., Garner, Iowa.

Stellar Industries Inc., Garner, Iowa, has hired David Engstler as customer service manager and has added Jeff Horstman to its customer service department.

Malcolm Pirnie Inc., White Plains, N.Y., has named Jerry L. Frieling chairman, William P. Dee CEO, and Garret P. Westerhoff senior vice president and director, all effective in spring 2002.

The Consulting Engineers Council of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, Pa., has announced officers for 2001-2002: G. John Kurgan president, Sandra Loy Bell president-elect, Bruce A. Fletcher vice president, Robert M. Rodgers treasurer, Russell N. MacNair secretary and Christopher L. Borton national director.

Breaker Technology Inc. (BTI), Solon, Ohio, has named Robert McArthur director of international sales, Pat Hoggatt Mideast regional sales manager, Debra Ferguson controller and Sharon Johnston marketing manager.

Terex Corp., Westport Conn., has appointed Kevin O'Reilly vice president of investor relations and corporate communications.

Dick Lilly, press secretary to Seattle mayor Paul Schell, has joined Seattle Public Utilities as a strategic advisor for solid waste, drainage and wastewater issues.

Redemtech, Columbus, Ohio, has appointed James Raphael vice president of sales and Gloria Chapin director of customer service.

A. Douglas Sebastian has been named vice president of parts and project services for Harris Waste Management Group Inc., Peachtree City, Ga.

HDR/WL Jorden, Omaha, Neb., has named Douglas R. Hooker vice president and department manager for the firm's Atlanta area offices.

Camp, Dresser and McKee (CDM) Inc., Denver, has promoted Christopher R. Schulz to vice president. Russell Mitt Tidwell also has joined the firm as principal.

In Memoriam: Ed Ensor, Waste Management Inc., Houston, and long-time member of the National Solid Wastes Management Association (NSWMA), Washington, D.C., has died. Ensor was a founding member of the Maryland-Delaware Solid Waste Association (MDSWA). He lived with his wife, Barbara, in Ashton, Md.

Charles Leonard has joined Casella Waste Systems, Rutland, Vt., as the company's senior vice president of solid waste operations.

A 1978 graduate of Memphis Tennessee State University, Leonard has more than 20 years of waste industry experience. He began his career with Browning-Ferris Industries' (BFI) west coast operations and spent 10 years with Laidlaw, Burlington, Ontario, Canada. Most recently he was responsible for managing more than $500 million in integrated solid waste revenues as senior vice president of Laidlaw's U.S. operations.

Leonard left the industry when Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Allied Waste Industries acquired Laidlaw, but he joined Allied last winter and was hired by Casella in July 2001.
