Fairfield Firefighters responded to a deadly truck accident on I-95 northbound near the exit 23 off ramp Thursday morning. It happened just before 10 a.m.

According to police, the John’s Refuse & Recycling truck dropped off a dumpster at the northbound Fairfield rest area and then entered the highway in the right lane. The rear boom/lift mechanism for the dumpster was still raised, and it hit the overpass for King’s Highway, which caused the truck to roll over onto its lift side and slide into the guardrail.

The responding officer found the driver, later identified as 32-year-old John Collette, of Wallingford, trapped by the guardrail and unresponsive inside the cab of the truck.
