A proposal to increase the capacity of the Chemung County landfill from 180,000 to 417,000 tons awaits state approval but is included in a long-range plan for the facility.
A public information meeting regarding the completed Draft Local Solid Waste Management Plan is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hazlett Building, 203 Lake St. in Elmira. It will include a presentation on the draft plan, with an opportunity for audience members to ask questions.
“We’re obligated to do a plan every 10 years. This is just something where we’ll take a look at where we’re going currently, where we’re going to go in the future, looking at every aspect of the landfill,” County Executive Tom Santulli said.
