Teamsters Reject Contract

Chicago --The Teamsters union has rejected a labor contract proposed by the Chicago Area Refuse Haulers (CARH) Association that would have raised wages and pension contributions 24 percent during the next five years. CARH says it has nothing more to offer the 3,300 Teamsters who handle the garbage for private waste haulers in Chicago and its suburbs. The Teamsters have been on strike since Wednesday. Teamsters want to renegotiate, but members from CARH have told news sources they have nothing more to offer. City officials are telling reporters their patience to endure piled-up garbage is wearing thin.
