EPA Midwest Region is Tops in Recycling Benefits

Chicago -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced that its Region 5 states lead the nation in economic impacts of recycling, according to the National Recycling Coalition's (NRC), Alexandria, Va., U.S. Recycling Economic Information (REI) study.

In the Midwest states of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin, more than 8,000 recycling and re-use businesses employ 275,000 workers with a payroll of nearly $10 billion, and gross more than $62.5 billion in annual sales, according to the report.
