Toronto, Canada -- According to new research from Frost & Sullivan, Mountain View, Calif., the current U.S. economic slowdown will restrain demand for some medium and heavy duty specialty trucks, but trucks that serve the basic needs of municipalities, such as garbage trucks, will help prevent significant loss of market share.

End-users in construction, mining and logging are tightening their budgets, reducing capital expenditures and restricting orders for trucks because of decreases in demand. However, the need for garbage trucks, as well as beverage trucks and emergency vehicles, will keep overall demand stronger, according to the report.

Frost & Sullivan also has reported that the medium and heavy duty specialty truck markets generated $10.21 billion in revenues in 2000 and expects that the economic slowdown will restrain revenues through 2001, excluding equipment and trucks such as chassis, construction bodies, urban service bodies, off-road vehicles and garbage trucks.
