PepsiCo India Launches Line of 100% Recycled Bottles

Matching its main competitor, PepsiCo India has introduced the country’s first soda bottle made of 100% recycled plastic.

Matching its main competitor, PepsiCo India has introduced the country’s first soda bottle made of 100% recycled plastic.

PepsiCo India has just revealed its newest bottles, the Pepsi Black 100% recycled plastic (rPET) bottles, which is said to be India’s first in the carbonated beverage category. This bottle launch comes just weeks after Coca-Cola launched a similar bottle also made from rPET.

This new product is part of PepsiCo India’s mission to build a positive value chain, pushing for a circular economy with the end of goal of producing packaging that never becomes waste.

“We are encouraged by the measure taken by the government to promote a circular economy in India. We are proud to launch the 100% rPET bottle of Pepsi Black,” said George Kovoor, senior vice president, beverages and sustainability at PepsiCo India. “This is an important milestone in our sustainability journey, backed by our intent to create a positive value chain and this launch is yet another step in that direction. We shall learn and evolve as we continue our endeavors to build a robust ecosystem while expanding the use of recycled content in our packaging.

Pepsi Black rPET bottles are made from 100% recycled plastic which are manufactured in India in partnership with Srichakra Polyplast (India) and bottling partner Varun Beverages.

The use of recycled PET in food packaging has been approved by the Food Safety Authority of India. The specific packaging is subject to compliance with its guidelines after a thorough review of food safety.
