Starting this month, residents of Edmond, Okla. Will be able to recycle glass items once again.

The City of Edmond has a new contract with Republic Services for the recycling pickup and processing of glass products. With this, to cover the cost of adding glass back to the acceptable recycling list, the monthly fee for the recycling service has increased to $5.58 for residents.

A survey conducted earlier this year show that there was overwhelming support from Edmond residents for adding glass to the acceptable items that could be recycled and the cost that would come with it. Over 3,500 participated in the survey and 3,461 said that they participate in the curbside recycling program.

As for the added cost for the expanded service, more than 61% of customers said they would be willing to take on the increased fee.

Residents must clean and dry glass products before they are put in recycling carts for collection. Adding glass to the collection is only for curbside pickup, glass will not be accepted at the nearby drop off location.
