Director of Houston’s Solid Waste Department Proposes Garbage and Recycling Collection Fee

Houston residents may soon have to pay a fee for recycling and garbage collection in order to improve the services.

Houston residents may soon have to pay a fee for recycling and garbage collection in order to improve the services.

Mark Wilfalk, Director of Houston’s Solid Waste Department, says that he believes a fee system will help the department, calling for a need to “right size” or restructure the department so it can make a profit more efficiently and meet the needs of the community.

Wilfalk has mentioned he has hired a third-party consultant to help with crafting a manageable proposed fee. This fee would go towards making the department more self-sufficient in terms of revenue. Although, Wilfalk has yet to put a dollar amount on the idea.
