Columbus, Indiana is currently searching for a new company to transfer and process recycling material from the city’s curbside pickup program.

So far, the city has only received a proposal from Rumpke. Recently, the Columbus Board of Public Works voted to take under advisement Rumpke’s proposal to haul the recyclable material collected in the city. According to Bryan Burton, the city's director of public works, the materials will be brought to a processing center to be cleaned and sorted.

“Right now, we’re just looking for a new hauler,” Burton said this past week. “We got the one proposal today, and they are proposing that they stay at the same location. So, they would just take over the Nugent Sand site, and we as the city would just continue doing the same thing.”

The city’s contract with Ray’s Trash Service is set to expire on Feb. 1.
