Earlier this week, the city of Tuscaloosa, Alabama stopped accepting plastic film to be recycled.

Chris Meggs, Environment Director, said in 2018 processing regulations changed, and Tuscaloosa could no longer send out certain plastic materials to China for processing. Meggs continued to say that the city has been stockpiling for some time but it’s becoming an issue to move the material.

"As of right now it's just more of an issue of stockpiling it and moving it when we can, and it takes up a lot of space," said Meggs.

Meggs recommends shoppers switch over to reusable bags when grocery shopping to help protect the environment.

"I think it's sad, we need to recycle them to save the environment. I would hope that we could possibly keep recycling them somewhere to help our landfills, so they won't get full of plastics," said Josephine Hallman.
