The Taunton Recycling Center in the UK is preparing to reopen following a month-long closure due to a major fire.

The fire at the recycling center broke out in the material recovery facility (MRF) back in October. Now, the site is preparing to reopen to the public on November 13, and residents are being warned that there will potentially be long lines to use the facility.

Around 60 firefighters and eight appliances were on the scene to put out the blaze at the facility. Once the fire was out, the site’s MRF building was deemed “damaged beyond repair” by structural engineers after sustaining 80% damage.

"We know that residents have been waiting patiently to access the recycling site - we thank you for your understanding and patience during this period of closure," said Dixie Darch, Somerset Council portfolio holder for climate change and the environment.

"Safety had to be our priority and we couldn't open the site until it was safe to do so."
