Gardner Sludge Landfill Receives Pushback From Regional Coalition

A regional coalition in Gardner, Massachusetts expresses opposition to initiatives to expand the local landfill.

The proposal to expand the Gardner landfill is receiving pushback from the regional coalition. The landfill is home to the area's wastewater sludge, however, residents are worried about its proximity to the nearby river. With new motions toward the approval of the expansion, the coalition group remains in opposition to the expansion. Ivan Ussach, Watershed Coordinator for the Athol-based Millers River Watershed Council and spokesman for the coalition has not lost hope of their efforts to overturn the expansion.
