Birmingham City Council is preparing to vote on drastic cuts which would include dropping weekly waste collection and cutting waste crews by a third.

The council has been facing financial hardships and is looking at cuts packages to make up some savings. The new package would call for 25 fewer residual waste crews, bringing the total down to 55. This would give the City a net saving of £4.5M annually, with £3M less on agency staff and £1.5M saved from reduced fleet requirements.

The cuts would also move waste collection to a bi-weekly model and may call for changes to bin size to account for residents holding onto their waste longer.
