Charlotte, N.C. businesses can now use an app to help curb food waste and feed residents for a discount.

Goodie Bag, an app that works with small businesses and being called a “marketplace for surplus food” is now available in Charlotte. The goodie bags offered by the app contain an assortment of food items like bagels or unsold pizza slices, all sourced from small businesses to prevent that food from going to waste. The food is then offered at a steep discount, sometimes up to 70% off, for residents.

Goodie Bag is now available in Boulder, Denver, Fort Collins, Phoenix, and Charlotte, working with around 100 businesses across all locations.

"What we're seeing in Charlotte is definitely incredible," Eddy Connors, Goodie Bag co-founder said. "We've sold at this point over 1,200 bags... in just 20 days, and essentially all of them have been bought and picked up, and on average, it's getting bought in less than a minute, 20 seconds."
