Wastewater infrastructure in the United States is falling behind in maintenance and upgrades due to the amount of money and skilled labor needed to keep up. To help get the ball rolling in the right direction, Veolia North America, the largest private operator of water services in the U.S., has teamed up with the Water Finance Exchange (WFX) to enhance water infrastructure in disadvantaged communities.

Veolia, a founding member of the WFX Water Roundtable, brings its extensive experience and resources to support areas with complex water issues. With this support, the WFX Water Roundtable will put communities on a path to prioritize water projects and elevate an area’s technical and financial resources through creative funding strategies. WFX has worked with communities in Texas, Idaho, Illinois, and more with extensive behind-the-scenes work to rebuild water systems.

“We are very excited to partner with Veolia as we expand our work with rural, disadvantaged communities across the country. Their depth of experience in utility operations and knowledge of innovative technologies will help WFX better serve communities in pursuit of sustainable infrastructure and affordable solutions,” said Brent Fewell, WFX Co-Founder in a press release.

Forward-thinking partners like Veolia recognize that we only achieve safe, affordable, and sustainable water and wastewater systems by working together. We look forward to growing the Water Roundtable to do just that.”

With the Water Roundtable, WFX and Veolia aim to create programs and partnerships focusing on specific community improvements and larger regional initiatives like boosting water quality and public health. Veolia will dedicate resources to communities, helping them rebuild water and wastewater infrastructure.

“Everyone deserves access to high-quality water and sanitation services, no matter where they live or what their community’s resources are. Veolia North America’s thousands of employees bring an unmatched depth of experience and know-how to the task of upgrading water infrastructure, and we’re excited to work together to confront the funding, implementation, and operational challenges that are holding America back from fulfilling the promise of water equity for everyone,” said Karine Rougé, Chief Executive Officer of Municipal Water at Veolia North America in a press release.

WFX was established in 2020 and has since helped numerous communities in America with innovative strategies to tackle infrastructure deficiencies. The group has helped 30 communities access more than $100 million in funding for water infrastructure. Plus, it connected communities with federal, state, and philanthropic partners for continued financial and technical assistance.
