According to documentation by the Department of Environmental Protection, Modern Landfill illegally dumped wastewater into Kreutz Creek. Numerous chemical compounds have been found in the river, leading the department to investigate the issue.

It was concluded that the Modern Landfill was not abiding by standards set in the state in 2017. In order to correct the issue, the landfill must implement a $23 million water treatment facility by mid-2023.
