Toter, a Wastequip brand and a leading manufacturer of two-wheeled carts for curbside waste, recycling and organics collection, has announced a new bear-proof certification on its 64- and 96-gallon Bear Tough Carts.

The Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee (IGBC), a group comprised of representatives from five federal agencies and several state wildlife agencies, granted the certification as part of its Bear-Resistant Products certification program. “Products that pass the IGBC testing protocol and are approved as bear-resistant meet IGBC bear-resistant design and structural standards.”

During the testing, Toter’s Bear Tough Carts “successfully withstood grizzly bear intrusion attempts for one hour without the containers allowing access.” The Tough Carts are constructed using Toter’s Advanced Rotational Molding technique, which creates a rugged rim. The carts also boast double-walled lids, a beefed up hinge, and “thoughtfully designed pry points.”

“Our Bear Resistant Carts provide reliability for customers and offer cost-effective solutions for communities seeking to bear-proof their waste management programs,” noted Jeniffer Coates, vice president of product management at Toter.
