A woman walking in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood saved the life of a baby she heard crying in a trash can.

Authorities were called after the women told paramedics who happened to be in the area at the time of her discovery. Police quickly identified the mother after a brief investigation. 

Suffolk County prosecutors would not disclose whether or not the mother will face charges. However, they did say in a statement that "parents may legally surrender a newborn within a week at any hospital, police station or staffed fire station."
