The Baltimore Department of Public Works is experiencing significant delays in trash collections because employees are refusing to report to work. Sanitation collectors are considered essential employees and the delays pose a new threat to the public health in the city of Baltimore. The Department of Public Works is taking action immediately. All workers are asked to return to work immediately and the failure to do so will result in job abandonment. And the department is currently recruiting new laborers to fill positions for employees that do not return to work.

This situation follows the Eastside Sanitation Yard suspending operations last week to protect its works from COVID-19.
