With all six of Massachusett's active landfills set to be full by 2030, an organization called Zero Waste Massachusetts is attempting to identify ways to slow down this filling. The organization did a study and discovered that 40 percent of waste that winds up in landfills, or is burned and littered could be recycled or composted.

In the state of Massachusetts, there are only 6 active landfills, all of which are expected to be at capacity by the year 2030. Investigating solutions to this problem, an organization called Zero Waste Massachusetts has found that 40% of all waste that ends up in landfills, incinerators, and litter can actually be funneled toward recycling and compost systems. In response to this discovery, they have issued a list of necessary steps to reduce all of the waste that is sent to landfills.
