Captain Trash Wheel, which is designed to prevent litter and debris from entering the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River, launched at Masonville Cove, Md., on Tuesday. In addition to helping keep the waters surrounding the Port of Baltimore clean, it will help “engage students’ continued enthusiasm to learn more about environmental stewardship, the Port of Baltimore and Masonville Cove's educational opportunities.”

Captain Trash Wheel, which is the third trash wheel to launch in the area, underwent extensive training before its launch, clearing 3.7 tons during the training period.

Baltimore officially has another trash wheel – Captain Trash Wheel reported for duty on Tuesday at Masonville Cove.

Captain Trash Wheel will prevent debris and litter from entering the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River.

"We are thrilled to have Captain Trash Wheel officially report for duty today at Masonville Cove," said Chris Correale, director of harbor development at Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Port Administration (MDOT MPA). Captain Trash Wheel will not only help keep the waters surrounding the Port of Baltimore clean, but also be a captain that will engage students' continued enthusiasm to learn more about environmental stewardship, the Port of Baltimore and Masonville Cove's educational opportunities."
