Mobile, Ala. is partnering with a recycling center in Chickasaw to help residents recycle electronics, diverting them from the city’s landfills.

The recycling center, Ransom Solutions, works to provide easy ways for households to dispose of electronics.

“There’s a lot of toxic waste in electronics,” said Matt Armbruster, Founder and Executive Director of Ransom Solutions.

“There’s mercury, there’s lead, so we go in and we separate all those different things and then we sell them which goes back into the stream.”

Ransom Solutions has three drop-off locations around the city, with teams that can sort and process the electronic waste. The company’s other goal is to employ homeless individuals, giving them an opportunity to work and earn a living.

“The more stuff you bring the more people we can help get off our streets so they’re not out in the streets, they’re not in addiction, and when they get out of prison, they have work, a place to go to work. So, the more stuff we have, the more jobs we can offer,” Armbruster said.
