Due to high contamination levels and costs, Miami, Florida, is considering eliminating its recycling collection program.

Due to high contamination levels and costs, Miami, Florida, is considering eliminating its recycling collection program.

The issues and costs have built up to the point that now, the Miami City Commission has scheduled a preliminary vote to allow the Solid Waste Director to decide the type of recycling, the frequency and amount of collection, or whether City-serviced recycling is needed at all.

Currently, recycling in Miami is picked up every two weeks.

“The proposed code changes on the upcoming commission agenda are designed to offer clear authority and flexibility for implementing necessary adjustments to improve our services,” said the City of Miami.

“These changes aim to ensure the department can respond promptly and effectively to the evolving needs of our community.”
