IV Waste has been awarded a one-year emergency waste collection contract for the French Quarter and Downtown Development District.

The company, which submitted the lowest bid of $5.9 million among four other bidders, will begin operations on December 23. Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s administration initiated the emergency bidding after failing to secure approval from the City Council for a long-term contract with Henry Consulting.

Henry Consulting is seeking a Civil District Court ruling to compel the council to approve its contract, saying that the city council lacks authority over professional services agreements.
