The EPA has issued a grant to help the expansion of the Green Brewery Certification program through the Midwest.

The EPA has issued a grant to help the expansion of the Green Brewery Certification program through the Midwest.

The program, established through the Iowa Waste Reduction Center at the University of Northern Iowa, has helped certify more than 30 breweries for pollution prevention efforts. The grant from the EPA, for more than $175,000, will see the program expand into Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri.

“What we’re going to be able to do is kind of take what we’ve developed and really formalize it for other states to be able to kind of follow the lead of a successful program,” said Joe Bolick, Iowa Waste Reduction Center Director.

“Really a lot of what we do is operational efficiency. Using less water, using less resources, finding out, you know generating less waste and finding alternatives that waste. All of that is going to lower your costs.”
