Recycling centers in East Texas received more than double the typical amount of cardboard following the recent holidays.
On average, a majority of the area’s recycling centers see about two bales of cardboard a day, however, this holiday season, a recycling center in Tyler, Texas, has been dealing with almost five bales a day.
“This week’s been pretty busy,” said Leroy Sparrow, the Solid Waste Director in Tyler. “The guys told me they’ve been pulling about five bales of cardboard a day.”
“Once we have 40 bales, this is a perfect area, we stack them here,” said Sparrow. “We contact Evergreen who is our current vendor, and they’ll come with a semi - 18-wheeler - and haul them to whichever closest mill that needs it.”
