A new partnership between BMW Group and SK tes has been launched to recycle high-voltage batteries, recovering valuable materials.

The new partnership will utilize SK tes’ innovative lifecycle solutions to recover cobalt, nickel, and lithium from used batteries. Those materials will go back into the value chain to manufacture new batteries.

“Partnerships like this increase our efficiency in terms of the circular economy. In the closed-loop process, all partners mutually benefit from their experiences,” said Jörg Lederbauer, Vice President of Circular Economy at BMW AG.

This partnership builds on a previous closed-loop recycling system initiative between BMW and China with plans to expand to North America by 2026.
