The Allen County Department of Environmental Management in Indiana has announced a federal grant that will go toward expanding battery recycling in the community.

Allen County is only one of seven counties in the United States to receive this grant, which is funded by the Bipartisan infrastructure law. The gran will contribute roughly 50 percent of the cost of the program for the next three years, working to increase awareness and education around the dangers of lithium-ion batteries.

Education will also be provided to first responders and those who work in hazardous waste facilities who may have to deal with batteries that have been thrown away.
