Waste Pro Relocates Recycling Facility After Tornado

Waste Pro USA has relocated its recycling facility in Birmingham, Ala., after its previous operation was destroyed by a tornado.

The Longwood, Fla.-based Waste Pro said in a news release that the new space in unincorporated Jefferson County, Ala., covers more than 87,000 square feet of operating space on 14 acres.

The company’s previous facility in Birmingham was destroyed by a tornado Jan. 23. Since then employees had been working out of a trailer with no interruption in service, said Brandi Hunter, corporate marketing/communications manager for Waste Pro, in an e-mail.

The new facility features a twin baling system and can generate more than 7,500 tons of baled recycled material per month.

Division Manager George Nicholson said all the facility’s staff was unharmed by the tornado and the only losses were material.
