Waste Management Inc. is partnering with a water contamination specialist to provide stormwater management services to U.S. municipalities.
The Houston-based Waste Management said in a news release it will collaborate with AbTech Holdings Inc. to team up with municipalities to design, build, operate and service stormwater infrastructure. The Scottsdale, Ariz., AbTech is an environmental technologies and engineering firm.
Through the program AbTech will provide stormwater treatment technologies, using both their own technologies and other commercially available engineered systems, partnering with Waste Management and municipalities. The program also will include stormwater need assessments, design of stormwater control measures and ongoing servicing and maintenance of the stormwater infrastructure.
Waste Management operated a pilot stormwater solutions program with AbTech for a year, and now wants to commercialize its efforts. The company said the program also has the potential to include finance alternatives for the municipal infrastructure.
"We determined during our stormwater offering pilot phase that the best way for the private sector to truly help municipalities meet their clean water needs was through this complete stormwater management approach," said Paul Pistono, vice president of public sector solutions for Waste Management.
