Waste Management Buys Florida Recycling Facility

Waste Management Inc. of Florida has bought a single-stream recycling facility in Miami for an undisclosed amount.

The subsidiary of the Houston-based Waste Management bought Southeastern Recycling in Miami, a recycling facility that covers 100,000 square feet and serves more than 1,000 commercial customers in the south Florida counties of Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. The facility employs more than 100.

“The acquisition of Southeastern Recycling expands our capabilities of processing single-stream commercial and residential recycling materials and allows us to meet the growing needs of our customers in south Florida,” said area vice president Tim Hawkins, in a news release.

Waste Management currently operates the Reuter Recycling Center in Pembroke Pines, Fla., which it claims is the largest residential single-stream recycling facility in the southeastern United States and can process more than 20,000 tons of materials each month.  Together, the two facilities will support expanded opportunities for residential and commercial single-stream recycling in south Florida, the company said.
