Kohl’s Department Stores said it recycled 78 percent of its operating waste in 2011.
The Menomonee Falls, Wis.-based retail chain said in a news release on its 2011 sustainability report that it also achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for more than 200 of its locations, and gained gold LEED pre-certification for new and existing stores.
In addition, Kohl’s purchased more than 1.4 billion kilowatts of renewable energy credits, offsetting 100 percent of the company’s purchased electricity use.
