WASTEC Issues Revised Safety Standard for Mobile Equipment

Article-WASTEC Issues Revised Safety Standard for Mobile Equipment

The Waste Equipment Technology Association (WASTEC) has released a revised standard on safety for mobile waste and recycling equipment.

The standard developed by the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) Z245 full committee added many manufacturer and user safety changes, including sections that address ladders, fall protection and battery disconnects. The standard last was updated in 2008, the Washington-based WASTEC said in a news release.

“This standard provides the best practice for users and operators of equipment used for collecting and managing waste and recyclable materials,” said Janice Comer Bradley, WASTEC executive vice president.

Robert Mecchi, chairman of WASTEC’s board of governors, added that the improved safety standard also makes for more uniformity regarding trucks and containers, allowing equipment producers to expand their potential customer base.
