Dr. James Kruger says that we need to use a carrot stick approach to reducing waste in the United States.

In this episode of Stef Talks Trash, Dr. James Kruger dives into his dissertation titled, "Burn It or Bury It: The Current State of Solid Waste Management Using the 2019 Baltimore Clean Air Act as a Case Study."

He references extended producer responsibility, saying that states need to implement programs that encourage manufacturers to reduce packaging. There also needs to be an increase in funds when it comes to composting programs to reduce food waste.

Learn more about the hierarchical order of waste, why Baltimore's plan for waste reduction works and why waste-to-energy is an efficient way of diverting waste from landfills.
