After visiting a waste-to-energy plant that turned hog waste and manure into methane gas, a North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality inspector noticed something wrong. There was a spill at the site that had not been reported. Four months after receiving the violation notice, the plant experienced a rupture that sent the liquid waste all across the farm area nearing local wetlands. This continued for two weeks, allowing 37,000 gallons of the waste to reach the wetlands.
