Earlier this week, the Select Board in Nantucket, Mass. voted unanimously to accept a bid from Waste Options to continue running the area’s landfill.
Waste Options has managed the landfill for the last 30 years and was the only company to submit a bid during the bidding process for the site. Libby Gibson, the town manager, and other area officials will negotiate the terms of the contract in the coming months.
“I think this new agreement will add transparency,” said George Aronson, solid waste consultant. “It's an agreement where the service fee matches the scope of services so that the town knows what it’s paying for and there’s a baseline going forward. Solid waste always seems to be changing in terms of the services and cost and we want to be able to achieve that.”
